FEMA Shelters

The Clever School & Community Tornado Safe Rooms are located at the following locations:

High School Band Room (capacity of 650)

6800 West State Hwy 14 (enter east side of the High School Building through the band room)


Clever Elementary/Middle Cafeteria (capacity of 1,550)

400 West Brown (enter on the north east entrance of Elemiddle Cafeteria from the bus lane)

The Tornado Safe Rooms are owned and operated by the Clever R-V School District and its first function is to provide protection for the students and staff during tornadic events during school hours.

The Tornado Safe Room will also be available for residents in the community who do not have basements or other safe rooms and live within each of the Tornado Protection Zones (TPZ).

If you have any physical impairment, special medical alerts or aid animal instructions then a Special Needs From must be completed and returned to the school before an event occurs.


During School Hours (8 AM to 4 PM)
Tornado Watch: The designated safe room areas will be cleared if necessary and readied for occupancy should a warning be issued.
Tornado Warning: Students and staff will report to the FEMA Shelters. TPZ Residents may proceed to the Safe Rooms to seek shelter.

During Non-School Hours (4 PM to 8 AM)
Tornado Watch: The Safe Rooms will be unlocked and prepared for occupancy should a warning be issued.
Tornado Warning: Anyone on campus will report to the FEMA Shelters.
TPZ Residents may proceed to the Safe Rooms to seek shelter.

**Safe Rooms remain open until Warning has expired or been cancelled by the National Weather Service.
